It takes an extraordinary person to live in this country and an extraordinarily stubborn one to try to change it. I am hoping my being a stubborn person will do good and make a difference in raising awareness and alleviating poverty. My site is for those who wish to be stubborn and defy the norm in this country. A country that has lived in abnormality for so long that it has become the norm. I do this for the children, the urban and rural poor communities I work on and for the love of the Philippines. Why leave when there's just so much to be done here?

Has the fight for social justice in the Philippines been taken to the government policy level? At some point, the government has to become accountable for the unacceptable, unsustainable inequities that have persisted for so long in the Philippines. Empowering the poor and disenfranchised cannot be limited to simple acts of kindness by folks like you; it must be a larger movement than that.

That is true. For programs to have a greater impact, legislation and policies have to be implemented. The government has several programs to alleviate poverty now. The Conditional Cash Transfer for example but that is really to inject enough “breathing space” for the poor in order for them to renew their lives. The National Anti-Poverty Commission headed by Joel Rocamora monitors and created programs for the poverty ridden but I really am not fully aware of their works yet but have had several meetings with them. I do work with several gov’t agencies for most projects. I don’t limit myself to personal and corporate programs.:)

Yes,it should be a larger movement but it starts with things one can personally do. This creates an awareness and ingrains value not only to the recipient but the giver. Then we can work on the government or hope that someone who has this ingrained value works with the government someday. If we wait for the gov’t,it just might be too late, don’t you agree?:) Empowering the poor and disenfranchised starts with us.
